William and Ann Bateman (nee Hawkins) of Bitton, Gloucestershire
WILLIAM
BATEMAN, possibly baptised February 9th 1793 in Bitton St Mary's, Gloucestershire
; died probably Bef. July 17th 1822.
He was perhaps the son of SOLOMON BATEMAN and ANN BATEMAN (nee
SMITH). He married (I believe) ANN HAWKINS October 18th 1818 in St
Mary's, Bitton, Gloucestershire. Is this his burial?
William Batman of Kingswood Hill buried 28th November 1819 aged 33 at St Mary's, Bitton, Gloucestershire. This William would have been born about 1786.

ANN HAWKINS who I believe to be the correct wife for William was the daughter of UNKNOWN HAWKINS and UNKNOWN HAWKINS (nee UNKNOWN)
ANN BATEMAN (nee
HAWKINS) married (in my opinion) 2ndly (as Ann Beatman at St Mary's Bitton,
Gloucestershire after banns.17th July 1822 as a widow
to John Lear (a widower) 1822 Ann Beatman == John Lear (Widow & Widower)
Botp Banns 17th July 1822 St Mary's, Bitton, Gloucestershire.
There is some disagreement about the identity of the mother of William Bateman.
I believe that she was Ann Hawkins however it seems that Wiliam Bateman was
still alive in 1832 according to the Will of Ann Bateman his mother (alledgedly)
and widow of Solomon Bateman. This would tend to lend credence to my belief
that William Bateman is in fact the son of a Bateman family who were living
near to the Evans family at The Wood, nr Blackhorse Pub, Kingswood. It is very
likely that even if some of the parents and grandparents are wrong that he does
not still descends from the Batemans correctly furthur back.

I believe this is William in 1841 living with his mother and half siblings and also very close to future wife Mary ann Williams.
They
are living about three doors away from Jeremiah Johnson a relation of my ancestress
Hester Garland (nee Johnson)

In 1851
they are living at Frys Lane, near Bryants Lane. In the previous household and
it looks like the same building
(below) are a Bateman family who could be related to her previous husband William
Bateman This same Sarah Bateman
is in the same household with Ann Lear ten years later in 1861. Is there a connection?
Surely there has got to be.

Is this
John Williams (above) a brother of 3 x gt grandmother Mary ann Bateman (nee
Williams)?
except the research of cousin Doreen Neal (of Salt Lake City)
shows that John Williams was married to a Jane.
Children of WILLIAM BATEMAN and ANN BATEMAN (nee HAWKINS) are I believe
(1)
Caroline Bateman, baptised November 1st 1818, St Mary's, Bitton, Gloucestershire?
Where is she in 1841 census?
(2)
WILLIAM
BATEMAN, born abt 1819 in Bitton Parish?; died June 13th 1905 Easton,
Bristol ?
married (1) MARY ANN WILLIAMS, September 12th 1841 in St James, Mangotsfield,
Gloucestershire and (2)
Elizabeth Bryant by whom he had a second family.
