MOSES BRAIN gt, gt grandfather was born abt
1825 in Mangotsfield Parish, Gloucestershire. He died December 8th 1887
at Crofts End, St George, Bristol. He was the son of WILLIAM
BRAIN and AMY
(EMMA)
BRAIN (nee GARLAND). Moses was the grandson of
UNKNOWN BRAIN and UNKNOWN BRAIN (nee UNKNOWN) and (probably)
SAMUEL
GARLAND and ANN
GARLAND (nee POOLE)
Moses married SARAH HAYNES at "St Philip and St Jacob",
Bristol on February 13th 1853. She
was the daughter of FRANCIS HAYNES and ALICE HAYNES (nee
CASWELL). Sarah was the granddaughter of
SAMUEL
HAYNES (abt 1765 - bef 1841) and SARAH

Both
Moses and Sarah signed their names by X mark. Their residence was given
as
Narrow Plain, Bristol which was not their actual full time residences
(I believe) that would be most likely St George for Moses and Hanham
for Sarah. Moses' father was William Brain whose occupation was given
as a labourer and Sarah's father Francis Haynes a Tailor.

The
witnesses to the marriage were X the mark of Daniel Lear. If
I have the right Daniel he was born abt 1821 in Bitton, Gloucestershire
son of Samuel Lear and married Elizabeth Caines in abt 1843 Bristol.
Sarah Haynes was related to the Caines family through her mother. Could
also be connected with the family of William Bateman my 3 x gt grandfather
whose mother married a Lear. The Cains family were infamous in their
day!.
The
other witness was Eliza David (the Sexton of St Philip and Jacob
Church) who lived in Church Alley in 1841 - by 1861 she is an inmate?
of the Temple Street Alms Houses, giving her age as 68 and born in St
Philips, Bristol. There is record of a death for an Eliza David in March
Quarter 1864 Bristol.

in disturbing a religious congregation along with Solomon Dark and John

for my gt, gt grandfather.
SARAH HAYNES gt, gt grandmother
was born abt 1831 in Hanham, Gloucestershire. Sarah died Aft. 1891 probably
at Crofts End, St George, Gloucestershire?. Perhaps in her son William's
