AUSTRALIA IN 1879 OF TYPHOID FEVER.

Joseph Smithyman was bpt as Joseph Smitheram 18-4-1786, St Hilary the son of John and Phylis Smitheram [ Bawden ] John Smitheram was the son of Christopher Smithram and Alse Lukey who were married 24-12-1720 , Breage

Phylis Bawden was bpt 19-6-1746 as Philippa Bawden , she was the daughter of Nicholas Bawden and Honor Remfry who were married 8-12-1744 , Perrunuthnoe. Jane Trewhella was born 1791 , Crowan , there is no record ofher baptism but she appears to be the daughter of Thomas Trewhella and Elizabeth Hancock who were married at Crowan in 1785. Thomas Trewhella was bpt 5-6-1763 the son of Thomas Trewhella and Martha Blewett who were married 31-1-1763, Crowan.

Martha Blewett was bpt 19-2-1737, Gwithian, she was the daughter of Edward Bluett and Anne Cock who were married 1-8-1724 , Gwithian. Ann Cock was bpt November 1702, Gwithian ,

Samuel Luke an iron moulder/pattern maker was a manager at the London foundry of Harvey and Co, after his retirement he lived at Lelant where he died in the nineteen twenties, his five children appear to have been born in London and the first three were baptised in St Felicitas Church,Phillack.

1-1-1628. Kea. Bpt of Dorcas Burlye daughter of Teage and Jane Burlye.

Phillack. " Richard Luke and Alice Mychell were married this third day of November 1628 "

Their children were baptised in the Phillack Church, William 22-5-1629, Margery 13-2-1630 and Elizabeth 19-2- 1633, I could find no record of them having a son named Richard.

c. Phillack. " Richard Luke and Elizabeth his wife were married this tenth day of October 1636.

Here we have another Richard Luke, he is definitely not the one who married Alice Mychell, and there is also no record of them having a son named Richard.

d. 7-7-1657. Richard Luke and Dorcas Birley were married in the parish church, Kea. .

Margery Luke daughter of Richard and Dorcas Luke bpt 29-8-1657, Kea. Note. The I.G.I. has her name as Margene, which is incorrect.

f. 5-6-1686. Charles Trewhella and Margery Luke were married at Camborne; their children were all baptised at Camborne as follows Dorcas Trewhella 31-7-1687, Matthew Trewhella 19-10-1689, Elizabeth Trewhella 5- 12-1696.

Note. I think it is reasonable to assume that this Margery Luke was the daughter of Richard and Dorcas Luke.

Note. The I.G.I. Shows this Dorcas Luke as Married to Thomas Wearne, clearly this is a transcription error, the entry below is dated 29-4-1734 Thomas Wearne = Elizabeth Tremelling.

27-3-1772. Phillack, burial of Dorcas Luke, widow, I have not been able to place her as yet.

3-5-1786. Francis Milwood = Grace Luke, widow, this was Grace Luke [ Hockin ] the widow of William Luke bpt 13-4-1750, Phillack.

18-4-1797. Phillack. James Luke = Johanna Benny, both of this parish. Note. I can’t place this James Luke, I can find no record of his baptism.

k. 4-2-1798. Gwinear .Bpt of Elizabeth Luke Cock, base daughter of Margery Luke, this was probably Margery the daughter of Richard Luke and Jane Love, bpt 5-5-1771 Gwinear, she married Hugh Hocking 22-12-1799, Gwithian.

Note. The I.G.I. reads Elizabeth Cock Luke but the Gwinear Parish Register has her name as Elizabeth Luke Cock.

l. 14-2-1798.Phillack. bpt of John Luke son of Jacob Luke and Jane Cock, these are the only details I have on him as there is no trace of him after his baptism, possibly he died young and his burial was never recorded ?

m. 19-11-1828, Phillack. burial, Samuel Luke aged 2 years of Ventonlege.

Note. His parents were not named and there is no record of his bpt in the parish register, he was probably baptised at home, there is a possibility that he was the twin brother of Eliza Luke the daughter of Jacob Luke and Joanna Where, as there is also no record of her baptism in the parish register and on some trees I have seen her year of birth shown as 1826, if they were twins they may been baptised at the same time, we can only surmise.
