I knew Sid between the years 1946 to 1956 when we came to Australia.
As you know, he was adversely affected by poison gas during the first
world war, and was never really full recovered thereafter. He died
as far as I can remember at the age of 68 in an old persons home.
We actually visited him there in 1963 but I cannot remember the address
offhand.
Sid was a reasonably likeable fellow but was very careful with his
money. (Probably because he did not have much). He and Lily lived
in Warminster Road Eastville not far from the Aunts at Gatton Road.
I think his number was 16 and the house backed onto the main Railway
Line.
He loved watching Football and playing snooker. We used to walk from
Warminster road to the snooker hall and back every time I played with
him. A journey of around an hour each way. We used to think nothing
of it and it saved a tuppeny bus fare.
He and Norman and a couple of us used to play hapenny nap every Friday
evening at his place, with Lily providing a cuppa during the evening.
By and large, he was a simple soul who was faced with the fighting
of demons nobody else could see or understand their presence.

She died according to the aunts because as a young child she was taken
out into the garden by an
aunt (a sister of her mother matilda) when she was unwell. Matilda
had protested at her daughter being taken into the garden, but the
aunt had insisted. The child Lilian had just learned to say her sisters
names.
