GEORGE LLOYD GIBBONS (1873-1923) my gt grandfather - a ship's engineer. He hated having his picture
taken - this is the only known picture of him. No idea what happened to the original after gt aunt Elsie Hancock's death. The lad is his son, John Gibbons. Born in Ebbw Vale in 1873 George's father Robert Gibbons (1846-1881) was tragically killed in an accident with a chaff cutter in 1881 on Bristol City Centre leaving the family utterly destitute. George thought that his future son in law Sidney Taylor's family were a load of snobs and didn't like them. George died after a shipping accident where he was in the sea for several hours. He contracted pneumonia and is buried in Green bank cemetery.
