ALBERT CREESE my great grandfather was born August 26th 1854 at Kiddles Lane, Yeovil, Somerset. He was the son of
WILLIAM CREESE
and JANE CREESE ( nee DADE) of Yeovil, Somerset. His father William Creese gave his X mark.
He married secondly SARAH JANE HOUGHTON, born January 29th 1859 at 20 King Street, Bristol. She was the daughter of
OLIVER HOUGHTON and his second wife SARAH HOUGHTON (nee GALE) of Bristol.
She died February 6th 1927

Albert Creese married firstly in 1877 at Barton Regis, Bristol Elizabeth Elliot she died between 1881-1885. By Elizabeth he
had a daughter

(1) Ada Sarah Creese born abt 1879 Bristol. Half sister of my grandfather Edwin Creese. Ada died at 76 Colston Road,
Bristol aged 27 years and was buried in Avonvale Cemetery, Bristol. Her funeral was on May 1st 1907.Her grave
is D blue L no 238. 2.6 s was charged for excavating one foot extra . 2.s for marking the grave .£3.15 s.1 d for
the grave. Certificate and Stamp of Grant of Burial 3.s Minister cost 8 s. Total cost £ 4.10s. 6 d which seems
to have been paid for by her stepmother, my gt grandmother Sarah Jane Creese

In 1881 Albert's first cousin Matilda Dade aged 22 (daughter of John and Mary Ann Dade of Yeovil) was living at Waterloo House, Waterloo St, Old Market, Bristol. Matilda was a servant in the household of Alfred G Williams a Master Brass Founder and Copper Smith employing 39 hands.

Albert Creese married secondly SARAH JANE HOUGHTON my great grandmother on November 8th,1885 at St. Paul’s Parish Church,
Bristol. The marriage was conducted by the Rev.James Davidson. Albert gave his age as 30 years and a widower and a Cabinet Maker by trade. He was resident in St. Paul's, Bristol. His father William Creese (a Tanner) was deceased. Albert signed by X his mark on the certificate.

Sarah Jane Houghton gave her age as 27 years, a spinster of St. Paul's, Bristol, daughter of Oliver Houghton (a Haulier). The marriage was witnessed by Walter Haberfield Sage ( a work mate of Albert's I surmise from his occupation as a French Polisher) and Ellen Addicott. Albert Creese died March 29th 1902 aged 48 years of pneumonia at "Fern Cottage" 19 Walton Street, Easton,Bristol. His occupation was given as Foreman Cabinet Maker.Stephen Houghton of 5 York Street, Avonvale Road, Bristol (his B in L) was present at the death. His death left the Creese family in very straitened circumstances and several of the children including my grandfather Edwin Creese spent a year or so in Mullers Orphanage. Sarah would visit her sons every Sunday according to her niece Freda Bleathman.

Along the street in 1891 is James Duffett Lucas born Bristol aged 68 and an accountant
With him is Elizabeth Duffett 50 and a housekeeper she was his cousin's widow and was
born in Yeovil
.Albert Creese is related to both Duffett and Lucas families from Yeovil, Somerset.
It is an interesting co-incidence that they are living a few households apart.. Are they cousins?

. She died February 6th 1927 at 3 Normanby Road, Easton, Bristol of Influenza and hypostatic pneumonia.

I can find no other trace of Jane Gale Sarah's sister. What happened to her?




The view down King Street from Welsh Back in 2007. In 1861 my maternal gt, gt grandparents Oliver and Sarah Houghton (nee Gale) were living in King Street and my paternal gt, gt grandparents Jacob and Elizabeth Luke (nee Uren) were livng in Welsh Back around the corner. In 1871 my other paternal gt, gt, gt grandparents Thomas Merris and Eliza Shergold (nee Wear) are living at King St, near the almshouse.

(1) Harold Courtney Creese born November 19th 1886 at 15 minutes to 3 in the afternoon at Easton, Bristol; died May 4, 1966 in Easton, Bristol; married Daisy Gwendoline Bunn; (she was born April 7th 1892 Easton, Bristol; and died in Easton, Bristol? April, May, June 1980.
I had no idea she was still alive in 1980.
They lived at 3 Normanby Road, Easton, Bristol. No issue. No idea what he did for employment.



(2) Mabel Creese born April 5th 1888 at half 3 in the afternoon in Easton, Bristol; married 1915 Reginald K Bartlett;
who was born 1892 in Bristol Easton?; he died December 3rd 1935.aged 43 (no children). From 1952-1966
she was living at Bannerman Road, Easton, Bristol. She died after 1966.

(3) Louise Sarah Creese born Bristol, May 2nd 1890 at quarter to 7 in the morning; died February 29th 1892 Easton, Bristol aged just under two years.




(4) Florence Beatrice Creese Born Bristol July 8th 1891 at quarter passed six in the morning and died about 1977 in an old people's home (Where?) I met her about twice to my knowledge. Once at her home 792 Filton Avenue, Filton, Bristol. Another time in the home where she had moved. She was unmarried. I thought she was rather nice. A little old lady with a bun is all I really remember. She was moved into a home around the time my mother became ill (1973) so sadly we lost touch with her. Perhaps 1972-3. Florence had diabetes and became blind having to have several toes amputated. She worked for Bristol Siddley Engines at Filton. As did my paternal grandfather Sidney George Taylor.











(5) Albert William Henry Creese born Bristol, December 8th 1893 in Thrissell Street, Easton, Bristol (?); died 1983; (a Lieut in the First World War with the?) married Olive Phillips daughter of Robert Phillips of Hawthorne Cottage, Wetlands, Portishead, nr Bristol January 25th 1923
in Portishead, Somerset; They had two sons. Albert ran the Post Office at Portishead.
They lived at 2 Ivor Terrace, Portishead, Bristol.



(6) EDWIN CREESE born February 16th 1896 at 50 Thrissell St., Easton, Bristol; died 1948 at 9 Elberton Road, Seamills Bristol; married BLANCHE ELIZABETH BRAIN August 1st 1925 in St. Ambrose, Whitehall, Bristol. She died 1961 at Sea Mills, Bristol ?.Edwin did not speak about the First World War except to tell a funny story about a stuttering friend "Jimmy Green" and his antics when they went over the to. Edwin was a remarkable man with a nice sense of humour (according to his nephew Ron) Edwin seems to have been universally liked and admired.




(7) Arthur Ewart Creese born October 17th 1898 in Easton, Bristol; died 1916 on the Somme aged 18 years killed by my grandfather Edwin's side. His name was on a memorial in the hall of Bannerman Road, Elementary School, Easton, Bristol.

(8) Gladys May Creese born Bristol, May 23rd 1901; died 1980; married Victor T D Farr February 17th 1923 at St Mary Redcliffe, Bristol; Victor was born abt 1902 in Ireland? and died abt 1985 in Greenhill, Herne Bay. They lived at one time at Gatton Road, St. Werburghs, Bristol the same street as my fathers side of the family the Taylors. The Farrs later lived at 66 Bannerman Road, Easton, Bristol.
