The last will and
testament of Stanton BATMAN deceased made and delivered by word of mouth in the
presence of us who names are subscribed the seven and twentieth day of December
in the year of our Lord God 1636 First
I give all my good moveable and immovable unto my wife Jeane BATMAN whom I make
my executrix and whereas I have conveyed certain lands unto my four daughters
that are at this time unmarried for their livelihood and maintenance yet nevertheless
my will is that my wife Jane BATMAN possess and enjoy the same lands with every
part thereof during the time of her widowhood allowing them a competent maintenance
yet nevertheless if either of my said daughters shall marry with the consent of
my said wife Jane BATMAN that the daughter or those daughters marrying such portion
as by conveyance I have made over unto her or them. Signed

blacksmith .... 43 .... and where one Staunton BATMAN of Bitton was this day to
make his appearance which .... .... of incontinence with Elizabeth Wise his daughter,
he affirmed that the said BATMAN (beknown?) on Lady Day one year last past had
the use of the body of the said Elizabeth in violent manner and by force as the
said Elizabeth told this deponent and that thereby the said Elizabeth was (burnt?)
and (injured?) ..... .... ... and .... .. and be ... at the infant and affirm
that the said BATMAN is questioned for a rape in the matter before the justices
of Assize and is already bound over to his good behaviour and is bound over to
appear at the next Assizes whereupon the matter is ... .... Court after .... all
interest referred to them that may be .... which will be .... on the matter of
the rape and the ... was allowed against that day to bring in the proceedings
had before the Justices. |
